The Book I Enjoyed Reading: “The Perfect Shot”
If you’re a person who likes suspense, and wants to find out if racism still affects our country today, then this is the book for you. Brain Hammett is the main character in this suspenseful book. Brain’s girlfriend gets shot one day when Brain was shooting hoops outside. Amanda, her mom and little brother were killed in their garage right next to Brain’s house. The police think that Amanda’s dad killed them. Brain doesn’t know what to do so he just tries to concentrate on basketball and making that “perfect shot”. The team is doing really good and with Brain being the starting point guard, and calling all the shots on the court and off, the team has a good chance of going to state. But can Brain lead his team to state after what has happened to his girlfriend and Mr. Daine getting convicted of his own daughter’s murder? Brain doesn’t think Mr. Daine did it but is the system that screwed up? On the day of Amanda’s murder, before she died, he saw someone in some gray joggers. Was that the murderer or just another person taking a jog, should Brain tell the cops or keep it a secret? And if he does tell the cops, will the cops just blow him off or try and help him?
Brain’s history teacher gives them a report, they have to do and it’s about a guy that got convicted and lynched for killing a 13-year-old girl. But did he really kill the girl or is the system always going to be that screwed up? Will it ever change!!! His best friend Julius is the best on the team. After a game Julius took his parents to the airport and got lost one the way back home. He took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in an all white neighborhood. The cops stopped him for being black of course and took him into jail; the beat him up and treated him horribly. So what will happen to Julius? Will he just forget about what happened or will he stand up for himself and fight the system? Mr. Daine’s trail is almost over, will he get convicted of his own family’s murder? If Brain tries to help Mr. Daine, will they try to make another “Perfect Shot” but this time on Brain?
Elaine Marie Alphin has written a marvelous novel, I enjoyed every bit of it. She makes this novel exciting and makes you want to keep reading until the end. Ms. Alphin talks a lot about racism and police corruption. I believe that there is a lot of that still around in the word, and I don’t think it will ever end. Ms. Alphin takes it to a whole other level, by talking about what actually happens in today’s society. This novel is worth reading and if I were you I would check this book out because I have learned a lot by just reading this book. This book was interesting and exciting to read. It had a lot of suspense and racial controversies, so if your into that kind of stuff and want to know more about what actually happens in the novel, the Elaine Marie Alphin has made a book for you.
Ms. Alphin made the characters in her novel very normal. I liked her book a lot because you can kind of relate to the kids that are in the book. They are basically teenagers that re barley getting a little taste of what the real world is like and not some kind of fairy tale they thought they lived in. Just because they live in a small town they think nothing will ever happen to them. I can kind of relate to that because I also live in a small town where everybody knows everybody, it kind of gets you thinking and you wonder if it would ever happen to you. I give this book two thumbs up. I enjoyed reading every second of it and I hope you can take some of your spare time and read this amazing novel wrote by Elaine Marie Alphin.
In conclusion, the novel “The Perfect Shot” is a novel worth reading and finding out the truth of who actually killed Amanda and her family. Reading and find out if Brain will fold under pressure when everybody needs him the most, and is Brain’s life also in danger? Read and find out everything.
