Would you like to be Gilly Hopkins? I sure wouldn?t. Gilly has tried a lot of foster families none of them have worked out. Gilly now lives with the Trotters. At first she does not like the Trotters, all Gilly wants is her real mom. Gilly began to like William Trotter, her brother and her foster mother. One day Miss Ellis, Gilly?s caseworker comes to the house and tells Gilly that Courtney, her real mom wants Gilly to go with her Grandmother. Gilly doesn?t want to go with her Grandmother.
I would rate this book with five stars. The main conflict in this book is Gilly vs. the Trotters because Gilly has to get used to the Trotters and she does not like the Trotters at first. Gilly learns to give it time to get used to the Trotters. So the theme of this book is you can?t judge someone write away. I would recommend this book for eight to eleven year olds.
Do you think Gilly has to go with her Grandmother? Do you think Gilly ever sees her real mom? All of those questions will be answered if you read the book. The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson is an excellent book.
