Quinn writes the following about Hatchet :
The Hatchet is an adventure novel by Gary Paulsen. This book is about a boy named Brian who takes a bush plane to fly over the north woods to visit his father at a camp in Northerm Canada. The pilot has a heart attack and dies and Brian has to crash land the plane in small wilderness lake. After the crash Brian has to learn how to survive on his own. His most importent tool is the Hatchet his mother gave to him before he got on the plane. He learns how to build a shelter, make fire, catch fish and hunt for birds. Because the plane was far off course when it crashed, he is not rescued for 44 days.

The part that I thought was good was the way the author described the woods and the animals like they were characters. For instance, Brian spent a long time trying to catch a type of bird he called "fool birds." The birds would hide until he almost stepped on them and then they would fly up in his face like they were mocking him. The thing I didn't like was the way the author would repeat words like the, "... calm lake, the real calm lake." He did that too much. I thought that this was a great book and I think you should read it.
