Jaime Grabler writes the following about Heartland :
Heartland is a horse farm nestled in the hills of Virginia, but it's much more than that. Heartland is a place like no other - a place where the scars of the past can be healed, a place where frightend and abused horses learn to trust again. Amy Fleming is going to see her dad in Australia with her sister Lou. But instead of seeing her dad Amy is faced with her step mom and step sister. Amy is having a hard time seeing anybody with her dad but her mom, but on the other hand Lou is amazed with Heather and Lily. Amy finds out that two horses need her help so they can be trained and sold. But one of her horses Spirt has no excitment left in him. Lou tries to help Amy relate to her family, but Amy is trying to ignore her. Amy finds out that Spirt used to be Heathers horse before she had Lily. One time when Amy was in the training ring with Spirt, Heather came by and it was like Amy was riding a different horse, he became more excited and had hope in his eyes. Amy tries remedies and herbs but nothing works, she is about to give up hope when Heather told her something about Spirt's past. Spirt had a bad case of the flu, and Heather stayed the night with him. Just like that Amy got the idea to stay the night in the stall with Spirt and see if he connects with her. Amy was almost out of hope when Spirt started to understand that jumping can be just for the fun of it, instead of just to win. Amy can see the sparkle in Spirt's eyes when he jump's over the poles. When Amy thinks nothing can get better than this, she finds out that on the same day it is Tim's and Heather's anaversey. They can't go out to eat because they have nobody to babysit Lily. Amy knows that she is taking a big step.
