Clare writes the following about A Child Called 'It' :
A Child Called It was one of the best non-fiction books I have read. It helped me to realize how children actually feel when they are abused. That abuse happens in many different ways and its hard to stop. I recommend that people who think child abuse is rare or they think they are the only ones that go through it. David was having a great life until suddenly his mom started referring to his as "the bad boy". She began to punish him. Things got worse as he grew older and he became "It" to her. He was brain washed into thinking everything he did was bad and he needed a punishment. He was abused everyday and he had to do everything he could to survive. He referred to the things his mom did to him as "her games". He knew all the ways to react to her "games" and the punishments for them. He finally got out of all the trouble when his elementary school called the cops to have him removed from his house due to his condition. The book just goes to show us that there really is sick people out there that don't feel bad for hurting an innocent child. Many people don't realize that everyday someone is being abused or fighting for their lives. That we all need to step up and help prevent things like this from happening. I give this book a 10. Its really hard to recover from being stripped of having a good life. I have been through this with my sister. She moved in with a guy who beat her and he didn't let her talk to her family. Recovery was very hard for her. I can only imagine how hard it was for him to write about it. To let others read about how hard his childhood was. Everything he went through was terrible and to be able to talk about it is amazing. He wrote this book very well and it needs no improvement.
