Ashleigh Schreiber writes the following about Number the Stars :
In the book Number The Stars, Annemarie goes on a life threatening adventure to save her friend Ellen from the evil Germen Nazis. This book has many themes in it, but the main one in my opinon is hiding because Ellen must disguise herself as a member of Annemarie's family, and she must hide from the Nazis. If it where my choice to pick Lois Lowery's purpose, I would have to say it's a mix between inform and entertain. Lois Lowery is informing the reader about some of the activities that went on during a holocost, but she also makes learning history fun by making up characters that go on adventures to help describe the holocost. The genre in this book is historcal fiction because even though the events are real, the characters are fake. the mood in this story is mostly scared. I think this because they are afraid that the Nazis will find Ellen's and the other Jewish families.
This story takes place during World War Two, between 1940-1943. It happened in the little town of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Lois Lowery did a great job of writing a histoical story, but at the same time this book was very fun to read. She also wrote alot of other famous novels like The Giver, The Messenger, Gathering Blue, Gossamer, and The Silent Boy; which all have amazing tale within their pages. The main characters book consists of Annemarie, Ellen, kristy, Uncle Hendrick, the Nazis, and many more. Number The Stars fulfills its purpose by giving us just a glimpse in our mind of what the holocost may have looked, and even souned, like.
I rated this book a smashing 10 stars because it gave me a challenge. Always in a book, I will try to figure out what the mystery is before the book is actually over.
If you like a tale of friendship, love between friends, history, and suspense, I suggest you go to your local libery, and pick up the book Number The Stars! Trust me, you won't regrate reading this novel!
