John B writes the following about The Island :
In this fictional adventure, Wil finds an island in a new town he has just moved to and he tries to solve the problems he is faced with. A bully named Ray Bunner challenges Wil and his parents don't agree with the idea of him deciding to stay on the island for a weekend.
Gary Paulsen effectively portrays Wil as a dynamic character. In the beginning of the book, Wil looked like he was bored but towards the end of the book, he had discovered his inner self. For example, in the beginning, Wil said things like he didn't care. Towards the end, he was painting pictures and writing pieces that expressed him.
I recommend this book to kids from ages 10-14 and/or anyone who likes to read about life truths because this whole book is about Wil trying to learn about him and nature.
