Tiffany writes the following about The Awakening :
This novel is about a woman in the 1890's. She is stuck in a terrible marriage and a life that she is not meant for. She belongs in a different time period. Edna, the main character finally breaks free of her chains that her controlling husband puts on her. She falls in love with a younger man who she cannot have. This novel, at its release date, did not receive very high reviews because of its content. Women did not act the way Edna did then. Kate Chopin is one of the best women writers and should be read and enjoyed by everyone. This is a novel for mature minds only.
