the book is about a kid named matt whos father is missing,hes missing when he goes to get the rest of the family but doesn't return!matt is waiting for his familes arrival when he gets hungry.all he had been eating was fish,so he knew there was a beehive and he thought all the bees were gone.so he climed up the tree when all the bees start atacking him he jumos into the water,an indian chief named saknis pulled hm out before he drowned.when matt figures out where he is saknis and his stuborn grandson attean make him a deal saknis wanted matt to teach attean to read so attean could read white mans treaties,the deal was done and......... read the book to find out
