The book Johnny Tremain is about a boy who is trying to be a silver smith, but an accident messes up his hand. Now he has to deal with being an outcast of society, being branded as a freak, not excepted for most jobs, and by some people he is thought to be an outlaw. When he finally gets a job he is forced to ride a horse as a paperboy for an inflammatory newspaper. Now he participates in many historic events. He meets famous past Americans, such as Paul Revere.
Overall Johnny Tremain is a fairly good book for middle schoolers. It has everything a good book should have. It has a historical background (therefore you can actually learn something), it makes you feel as if you are Johnny Tremain and back in the Revolutionary times. Most historical/fiction books are boring and too complicated to understand.
The only draw backs were: it needed to tell what happened to Johnny after the war; did he die during the war, did he inherit the Lytes mansion, or what; they also needed a chapter overview what happened before he was born up to when he first wanted to be a silversmith (just so you can relate a little bit to him before chapter one). Over all I give the book a 9 out of 10.
