Mel writes the following about The Glory Fields :

I really didn't like this book because it just left you hanging at the end of the generation. I know you are suppose to fill in the blanks for yourself but, I really didn't like that feature of the book. I don't think that I would be reading this book if it were not an ISU for the smart kids in my English class. If you like the Black History novels this will be a good book for you but, if you find Black History slow, you will not like this book.
