Helen writes the following about A Child Called 'It' :
This might possibly be the least well written autobiography that I have ever read- and I read a lot! Pelzer clearly still feels an enormous amount of anger in relation to his experiences which provides a dull narative which is tainted by his incredibly prevalent self pitying tone. What makes me despise Pelzer's writing further is the sickeningly "sweet" dialogue which takes place with his son at the end of this largely irritating novel. It seems as though Pelzer has used this as a comparison to demonstrate to the reader how a "normal" parent/child relationship should be, and also provide the reader with gladness that Pelzer is now okay- but all it made me do is wish that Pelzer was standing by me at the time so I could hit him hard with my copy.
