Thirteen-year-old Isabelle Lee is still trying to deal with the loss of her dad, but not exactly in the best way possible. Every night while her mother cries herself to sleep, Isabelle makes herself throw up. Until one day her little sister April catches her in the act. Isabelle isn’t able to make April keep her mouth shut so her mom finds out and forces her to take “Group.”
On the first day of Group, Isabelle meets her surprisingly fun group leader, Trish. Trish does everything she possibly can to help her overcome the terrible eating disorder. Isabelle is definitely surprised when Ashley Barnum, the prettiest, most popular girl in school walks in. The girls quickly bond and Ashley teaches Isabelle about other things to “help” her lose more weight. Will Isabelle realize what Ashley’s really like? Will Isabelle stop her dangerous habit before it’s too late?
Natasha Friend tells a realistic story of life as a bulimic. Friend is an amazing writer; she has written two other great books called Lush and Bounce. Friends’ writing takes you so deep in the book you won’t want to put it down. This page-turner will make you want to laugh and cry. I recommend Perfect to anyone looking for a good book.
