What does your mother not know about you? Sophie, a girl who is practically boy crazy, has many conflicts in her life. She has reliable friends, Grace and Rachel, who are always there for each other. She tells the reader her old memories, her first love (and others), changes in her life, school, and plain ole’ everyday things. She tries to figure out her emotions and her friends help every once in a while. It may seem like a movie, but then an “event” comes unexpectedly that changes everything.
Sonya Sones wrote What My Mother Doesn’t Know for her kids, Ava and Jeremy. She enrolled in poetry at UCLA. In fact, the genre of What My Mother Doesn’t Know is poetry. She was taught by Myra Cohn, who inspired her to write her other book, Stop Pretending: What Happened When My Big Sister Went Crazy.
What My Mother Doesn’t Know is truly outstanding. I loved it so much that I couldn’t set it down. I ended up finishing it in about an hour. It leads the reader in and around a girl’s mind, and basically tells the reader all about Sophie’s emotions, changes, memories, boys, school, problems at home, and so on. What My Mother Doesn’t Know
reels you in so far that you practically feel like you are one of her best friends and you are joined at the hip. You’ll almost be able to sympathize for Sophie, Murphy, Rachel, Grace, or Dylan. I would highly recommend this book because, like I said before, it was so good that I finished it in less than a day. I mostly recommend this book for girls, anyone who thinks they have problems like Sophie’s, and even moms who want to see what their teenage girls are thinking about. See if you have secrets from your mom, like Sophie.
