I loved this book! It really opens your eyes to what some children in our world are facing. This story includes the many hardships a young boy has faced when his mother almost "disowns" him making him the family slave, starving and beating him. The pain that this child goes through grips you so much you just can't put the book down. I didn't give it a 10 becuase this isn't a book everyone should read because the detailed paintings the author "draws" with his writing might be too much for some. And a book that makes you cry isn't for everyone but I loved this book, and if you enjoyed it you should also read its sequal, The Lost Boy.
