Kaycee writes the following about Johnny Tremain :
Esther Forbes’s Johnny Tremain is a tremendously well written novel based upon the dangerous times in Boston before the Revolutionary War. Johnny Tremain, an immature apprentice silversmith, experiences many difficulties from beginning of the novel to the conclusion. With many postwar troubles, Johnny and other citizens in Boston plot revenge on the unruly British. Throughout the novel, Esther Forbes takes you back in time to the stimulating Boston Tea Party and the beginning battles of the disastrous Revolutionary War.
In the rising action, Johnny Tremain is tragically injured in an appalling accident caused by a companion, Dove. Believing this will leave him crippled for life; Johnny flees away and lives his own independent life in the streets of Boston. While residing alone in Boston, Johnny stumbles upon Rab, who is Johnny friend who aids him throughout his journeys. Under guidance of Rab, Johnny receives a job riding a horse, Goblin, to supply papers to the citizens throughout Boston. While riding about town, Johnny becomes a messenger and learns much about the war soon to come.
With the war quickly approaching, Johnny meets many citizens of Boston during his journey. Rab, Merchant Lyte, Lavinia Lyte, Cilla and Isannaha Lapham, Dr. Warren and other famous Boston citizens all play a significant role in Johnny’s life, especially Rab. Johnny adored Rab because of how mature he was. Johnny learns many ideal lifestyles from him; for instance, he is taught to think before he speaks, ride a horse, and many more which you will stumble upon during your readings. In Johnny Tremain you will be enthralled in this pleasant bond between Rab and Johnny.
Because this is an awfully well written historical fiction novel, I highly recommend Esther Forbes’s Johnny Tremain. From how Esther Forbes recreated the troubles of the beginning times in the Revolutionary War, this novel is perfect for all ages. By traveling through the eyes of Johnny Tremain, you will enjoy remembering the hard times Johnny as well as the United States suffered. You will find yourself captivated in Johnny Tremain and the exceptional journey which Johnny awaits. Once you begin reading, be prepared for a great adventure.
