Ken Nixon writes the following about Brians Winter :
Almost everybody has heard of the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. In the book Brian is stranded in the Canadian wilderness and is eventually saved. But what if he wasn?t saved, what if he was left to face the freezing Canadian winter. This is what happens in the book Brain?s winter by Gary Paulsen. I thought it was a great book, because of the characters. Also I liked how Gary Paulsen wrote. And my third reason is that the plot was exiting.
Brian in the book Hatchet was scared and was still learning. But in Brian?s winter he has grown. For example he can hunt, make fires, fish. And he knows how to make shoes, vest and coats almost professionally. And he knows how to use these skills to survive. Another reason I liked it is because of how the author writes. He can write about something as simple as Brian?s craving for food and turn it into a detailed paragraph. Here?s a part of the book where he?s hunting a moose. ?One image. She threw herself at him, her eyes red with rage, and he saw her run into the lance, the point entering her chest just below the arrow. Then her head hit his forehead. Brian saw one flash of white light, as bright as all the snow, then nothing but pain and darkness.? And finally I liked the plot. The plot of Brian?s winter is that it?s the middle of fall and he has to learn to survive winter. It was exiting, I learned a lot from it.
These are my reasons why I think this is a good book. You won?t get tired of this book. This book is excellent and you should buy it now.
