Bettis writes the following about Among The Betrayed :
In the story, Nina is eating breakfast when she is arrested for a reason she doesn?t know. In jail, she is put with three young children named Alia, Percy, and Matthias. She is offered freedom from jail if she spies on the kids and betrays them. She wants to be free but she doesn?t want to betray the kids. So, together, all four of them escape jail. They try hard to make survive with no one but each other. The most interesting part in the book was the end, when Nina finds out what was really happening.
