It was a good book but not good for kids ages 12 or younger, because children bath the Old (in a bath tub,) and kill young and old people with a lethal ingection unless you can explain to your kid (if your kid is reading "The Giver"), that the people in the comunity are trained and have no clue what they are doing. the people dont know or experiance love, hate, true pain, war, or death. Its an enjoyabke book with intresting things. This book is about a Utopian Sociaty, that goes bad. Jonas, the major character, the Recivor of Memory understands and doesn't like Sameness, so he runs away, holding all the memories and sheding them( giving them back to the people in the comunity ) with his "brother", Gabriel, who was to be realesed "killed" the next morning. He may never come back.
