Holes By Louis Sachar
Have you ever fallen into a hole to big to get out of? Well Stanley Yelnats has. Stanley fell into a big hole when he was sent off to Camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of sneakers. Once at Camp Green Lake; which has no lake and is really a steaming hot desert and never gets any rain in the middle of Texas, Stanley is forced to make a five foot deep and five foot wide hole a day. After a couple of weeks Stanley make a few friends, one named Zero who has no family and has never learned to read or write and another named X-Ray who tries to make Stanley do what X-Ray wants.
This is my first Louis Sachar book, but I thought was an okay book. The author?s message was good because it talked about always telling the truth. And after the first chapter or two you are hooked because of the pain Stanley has to suffer and your desire to know if he gets set free or not. I thought the author could have filled in a few more holes by telling what happens to Stanley and Zero after they get their money and if Zero gets a family or not.
I gave this book a rating of an eight because of its well-developed characters and great detail of the setting. I also liked the text feature of it going into a different version of this one song. I thought the plot was a little pointless because why would you be sent to a detention area for stealing sneakers? It also had no parts in it that I could relate to.
