David S. writes the following about That Was Then, This Is Now :
I read the book That Was Then, This Is Now by S.E. Hinton.
This book takes place takes in a rough part of tolwn during the 1970s and at a local bar.
The main characters are Bryon, Mark, and Charlie. Bryon is a smart sixteen-year-old, baby-faced kid. Mark is a strong teen who has golden eyes to match his hair. Charlie is a tough twenty-two year old bartender.
Bryon and Mark had always been best friends and also half brothers, but things started to change. When Bryon and Mark were at the bar, Charlie was shot dead trying to protect them fron two men with guns. Bryon came home one night, after time had passed since Charlie's death, looking for a pack of cigarettes under Mark's bed, only to find something very terrible. Bryon has to make a decision that could change both their lives forever.
I really enjoyed this book because it talked about the reality that some people go through. I also liked it because it was very suspenseful. It was also very understandable.
I would recommend this book to any boys who like to read reality mixed with suspense.
