Francie Cavanaugh is just a 15 year old who loves Conor Basin. She counts the rings on the tree stumps to see how old it was for Mr. Court, a newspaper man. Her father and mother don't allow her to go there because of the lumber work. Francie had a sister named Carrie who died from a landslide accident 6 years ago. One day, Francie goes to the Basin where she finds a note hidden in a tree. That was Carrie's handwriting! The note was like a secret. This search for the secret turns into a dangerous mission. Franie has two choices- give up or ride the Flume. She needs to get to St. Joeseph's fast before more trouble occurs!
This is a wonderful book to read! When I first read this book, I never wanted to stop reading, and that usually never happens. Riding The Flume is a book that makes you keep on reading, wondering what will hapen next. I give this book a 9.5 out of a 10.0 because not every book I read is as interesting as this one was. This book shows how much someone can can really mean to another person, especially when they're gone. I recommend this book to anyone who likes Historical Fiction or adventerous books!
