laryngitis writes the following about Rastus Reilly :
I read 'Rastus Reilly', a truly insane comic novel by Steve Kelly, just recently, and it's the funniest thing I've read since John Kennedy Toole's modern classic 'A Confederacy of Dunces.' I'd say the new novel was broader than Toole's book but it might be even funnier. 'Rastus' is about a 30s detective, hired by an old fossil from Boston, Massachusetts, to find the secret of eternal youth for her. There's not a page of this book that isn't bizarrely absurd and outright hilarious. A friend of mine turned me on to it but nobody else I've talked to has heard of it. Have any of you bookreviewologists read it? I'd be interested to hear your reactions. If you haven't read it, and especially if you enjoy absurdities like 'Confederacy', I recommend Kelly's book unreservedly. Comments please. I'm including my email address.
