Discussion prompts:

What is the bright spot in the sky?
Milky Way Galaxy: a rotating mass of billions of stars.

Have you seen any other time-lapse videos of the night time sky?

How does this time-lapse differ from others you’ve seen?

How do you think the videographer achieved this effect?
They built a contraption that kept the camera centered on the Milky Way for a few hours while the earth rotated.

How do you think computers are involved in this process?

Given an accurate clock and an accurate location, computers would constantly calculate an angle at which the camera would need to be rotated in order to keep the Milky Way centered while taking the 11,000 photos used in this video. The computer would also be needed to assemble all the photos into a video.
