Thirteen-year-old Willy Freeman's life is dramatically changed in one horrible afternoon. She is accidentally mistaken as a boy when running errands for her father and is put on the front lines of the Revolutionary War. She witnesses her fathers death and then returns home to find that her mother was captured by the British. In search of her mother, Willy sets out on a long journey. Meeting people along the way,Willy befriends a boy her age named Horace and a bartender named Sam Fraunces. With their help, she continues the search for her mother and in the process she finds herself. I recommend this book to readers of all ages. It is historically accurate and I feel that after reading this book, I knew more about the revolution and the hardships of slaves (freed and not), of that time. This book is great.
