The Bully by Paul Langan
The Bully was about a boy named Darrell who moves across the country to California from Philadelphia. Darrell gets bullied, experiences family problems, and goes through a journey to be strong physically and mentally. We thought The Bully was pretty good, but it lacked original ideas and went along at a slow pace. Overall we would give it a 6.5 because it took too long to get to the point, but it did have a good climax. If we could improve this book we would put the opinions of other characters and include a more detailed ending, for instance what his family thought about what he did, or what the teachers thought. For the opinions of other characters we thought it should have been written in first person and the perspective shifting from character to character. Overall, the book was pretty good, but it had minor flaws. The minor flaws were the structure of the book like how it was written in only Darrell’s point of view, it went off subject and going into his family problems, there were also unresolved plot points like how Darrell may have been interested in Amberlynn, (Amberlynn is a girl that is Darrell’s friend) but was very vague.
