Impulse tells the tale of three teenagers; Conner, Vanessa, and Tony. They came to Aspen Springs, a rehabilitation center, from all walks of life. Conner seems to have everything but just below the surface is mystery. Vanessa, who lives with her grandmother due to the mental state of her mother, tries to find peace through cutting herself and Tony, alone, abused, and a criminal looks for the magic of Prozac. The three all made a choice to end their lives and all three fail. Now, stuck at Aspen Springs, they will learn about themselves and each other. I give this book a 10 for its realism and for the way that the stories of this trio hook you from the very first word, making you want to read until the very end. I would recommemd this gripping tale to high schoolers for its mature and sensitive subjects.
