Elsa writes the following about Surviving Hitler: A Boy in a Nazi Death Camp :
One person can change the world, but not always for the better. In this book "Surviving Hitler: A Boy in a Nazi Death Camp by Andrea Warren, 12 year old Jack Mandelbaum was separated from his family in 1939. Jack was like many other Jewish kids his age. World War 2 was an awful war. I think it was one of the worst, because it started for a stupid reason; one person not liking one kind of religion. Millions of innocent people died because Hitler came into power. This book takes place in Nazi Death camps in Europe, including Gross-Rossen. There are pictures in the book that show just how bad the S.S. treated the Jews. Some people don't believe that this really happened, but if you go to a concentration camp, like I did, or look at pictures and artifacts, there's no way people should be thinking it never existed. Jack was sent to camp after camp. He worked until he was nothing but bones. The Nazis didn't care. Most of them were hypnotized by Hitler and his speeches to even think about what they were doing. It was cruel and unecceptable. The S.S. left Jack two choices; to live or to die. Jack chose to live, so when all this was over he could find his family, if they too survived. When Jack was first sent to a camp, he had to go into a crowded room with many others. First of all, all his hair was shaved off. Then he put on a uniform, which was most likely just taken off someone who had just died. On Jack's uniform was the number 16013. That was the day the Nazis stripped Jack of his rights, dignity, and his name. World War 2 changed th lives of many around the world. Too many people died. I hope that never again would change the world as drasticly as Hitler did theis time many years ago.
