Bill Chapman writes the following about When I Am Old With You :

Another great title from Angela Johnson. The story contains the thoughts of a little girl who is telling her grandpa how they will spend their days together doing all the things he likes to do when she is old with him. They will walk the beach, go fishing, eat bacon and only bacon for breakfast if they want, etc. A beautifully written and illustrated book. David Soman's watercolors and Angela Johnson's lyrical stories are a perfect match. They complement each other beautifully and create works of art in children's literature. The real beauty is that all this is done while still creating a book that children love to look at and have read to them.
