I recently read Princess Academy for a project in my children's literature class at college. Upon beginning this book, I thought it may be difficult to get into since I am a little old at this point to relate to young adult books. However, I was pleasantly surprised as the book moved forward, offering many twists and turns I would have never seen coming. At the first look, it appeared to be your average book for an audience of young girls, but looking deeper, it proved to be a fantastic read that identifies with many of the issues young girls (or boys) may have at this difficult time in their lives. What once seemed like an uneventful plot began to hold my attention through the end, getting to the point that it was difficult to put the book down. I would highly recommend this for older children/young adults as a wonderful and exciting read. The genre is fiction fantasy... an unpredictable fairy tale so to speak.
