Are you a mean prankster? Well, if you are you may want to stop after you read The Twits by Roald Dahl. I’ll bet you will change your mind.
Oh, hi Mr. and Mrs. Twit! They are the two mean pranksters in the story. Mr. Twit is a hairy faced man and Mrs. Twit is married to him. She isn’t the prettiest sight either. I didn’t forget about you guys. I’m talking about a family of monkeys who belong to Mr. Twit. They have to stand on their heads. The setting in this book is the Twits’ property.
The Twits do a lot of mean pranks . Here are the two pranks in the beginning of the story. First of all, Mrs. Twit has a glass eye so she puts the glass eye in Mr. Twit’s mug of beer. Mr. Twit drinks the beer without knowing. To get back at Mrs. Twit he puts a frog in her bed! Wow! In the middle of The Twits Mr. Twit has worms for lunch. Long story, but it does sound pretty yummy. Soon there are all these pranks. Did I ever tell you that Mr. Twit has four monkeys that have to stand on their heads all day long? He wants to have a circus where monkeys do everything upside down! The monkeys get sick of standing on their heads so they plan revenge on the Twits. “ We’re going to turn those Twits upside down,”said Muggle Wump, a clever monkey. What will they do, and how will they do it? You have to read The Twits by Roald Dahl.
I am not telling you silly reasons why you should read this book. I am telling you to read this book because Roald Dahl’s text is so capturing, and adds a little spice to make reading more fun. Quentin Blake is the illustrator; his drawings make the book come alive!
I think this book will be a good for ages 9 and up because there are some tricky words. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it makes you believe in things that were not supposed to be real. Also this book will make you laugh your guts out just like Mr. and Mrs. Twit do when they play pranks on each other.
Want more Roald Dahl? Well read Fantastic Mr. Fox, Georges Marvelous Medicine, and many more tales. The author’s purpose in The Twits is to teach you that playing pranks are a big mistake and they can hurt someone’s feelings. I think Roald Dahl wrote this book so you will stop being a prankster and realize that it’s very cruel. Go get The Twits from your local library right now!
