Have you ever heard of farm animals that could talk? Or a spider that could save a pig’s life with simple words? Well, you will after you read Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White!
The characters in this book are Fern, a loving, caring girl, Wilber, a playful, friendly pig, and Charlotte, a clever smart spider. In the beginning of this book a runt pig named Wilbur was born and was about to be killed. Fern stopped her dad by asking, “Mama, where is papa going with that ax?” Fern ends up saving his life! She keeps him as a pet until he is too big. Then the family sends him to a nearby farm. Wilbur meets Charlotte a super smart and friendly spider and Fern comes to visit Wilbur everyday. When Charlotte learns that the farmer plans on cooking up Wilbur when he is nice and aft, she sets herself on a mission to save Wilbur’s life. She begins writing messages about how wonderful Wilbur is in her web. In the end, the family goes to a fair for the fattest pig contest and Charlotte tells Wilbur that she has the biggest surprise for him there…and oops! I said too much! You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens next!
I liked how E.B White put the setting in old times. I think that this book should be for ages 8 and up. I would rate this book six stars out of five stars because it’s such a heart-warming story. Other books written by E.B. White are Stuart Little and The Treasurey. I think the author’s purpose is to say that just because somebody smaller than you, don’t treat them differently. Go out to your library and grab Charlotte’s Web today!
