Carina writes the following about Third Grade Is Trouble :
Have you ever had the meanest teacher in the world? Well if you have, you can relate to Elizabeth Farmer in Third Grade Is Trouble by Barbara Baker. Some of the main characters are: Elizabeth Farmer, a girl who hates her teacher, Mrs. Rumford, and is super upset about it, Mrs. Rumford, a nasty and mean teacher, Bridget Duffy, a new very shy girl who becomes Elizabeth’s friend, Elizabeth’s older brother, Edmund, who had Mrs. Rumford when he was in third grade, her little sister, Peggy, who is in kindergarten, and last, but not least, Heather, one of Elizabeth’s best friends until they have a fight. Now let me tell you what the book is all about. In the beginning, Elizabeth has Mrs. Lane for her teacher then has to switch to Mrs. Rumford’s class because there are too many kids in Mrs. Lane’s class. In the middle of the story, Elizabeth meets Bridget Duffy. In the end, Elizabeth ends up… Will Elizabeth end up liking Mrs. Rumford or still hate her? Read the book to find out because I’m not telling you. My favorite quote from the book is, “She put some soap on her finger. Now what? The mirror. Elizabeth didn’t even think about what she did next. She just finished writing I HATE MRS. RUMFORD in big soapy letters.” The illustrator’s style is sort of like a little girl or boy would draw. I would recommend this book for ages 8 through 14. I really love this book because it shows how a girl is so excited about third grade when a specific teacher has to ruin her big year in third grade. I’d give this book 5 out of 5 stars because of the way the author tries to make her punctuation match the character’s voice. I think the author’s purpose is to show kids not to keep their hopes up for a NICE teacher every year. Now that I told you all about Third Grade Is Trouble by Barbara Baker, go to the library and get yourself a copy today. Carina Luna, age 9
