Dylan writes the following about Because of Winn-Dixie (Newbery Honor Book, 2001) :
Do you like dogs? Then you will like to read Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. The main characters are the mom, the dad, Opal, and Winn-Dixie, a dog without a home who can smile. In the beginning, Opal went to a supermarket named Winn-Dixie. In the supermarket there was a dog, which started wrecking the store. After begging her father, the preacher, Opal gets to keep the dog. “I absolutely will take care of the dog,” she says to him. It is beacsue of Winn-Dixie that opal meets all kinds of new and interesting friends, including a strange woman who has bottles hanging from her tree. Who is this crazy woman? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
There are no pictures in this book. India Opal is telling the story so the author writes like a 10- year-old. I will recommend this book to kids 9 years old and up. I think your mom or dad should read it to you because the words are a bit tricky. I will give this book 5 out of 5 stars because; it talks about people who are not really in the setting of the rest of the characters. Katie DiCamillo also wrote The Tale of Despereaux and won the Newberry award two times! Now you know why Because of Win-Dixie is a good book.
