Have you heard of the Flat Stanley series? If so, you know those crazy kids named Stanley and Arthur. Stanley’s a young boy who gets flat by a bulletin board. “Stanley did not mind being carried because he never liked to walk.” Arthur is a young jealous boy who cares about his brother Stanley. Mrs.Lampchop cares about her young boy; Mr.Lampchop is a man who doesn’t care about his son. The settings are the Lampchop’s house, museum, mailbox, park, and the grate. In the beginning, Stanley’s brother Arthur yells, “Dad! The bulletin board fell on Stanley.” In the middle, Stanley gets special treats and Arthur is jealous about the special treatment Stanley gets like being in charge of catching the museum thieves because of his flattness. If you think I am telling you the rest I’m not! You’ve got to go read the book to find out what happens next...
The author’s technique is that he uses very older kid words than younger kid words. The illustrator’s technique is that he figures a way how to paint Stanley’s stuck up in the tree. I recommend this book for ages 7-10 because the words are appropriate and not too hard. I give this book 6 out of 5 stars for the great idea of making Stanley flat and the great illustrations. This book is part of a series. The other books are awesome and have the same great ideas and illustrations. I think the author’s purpose is that if you have a brother or sister they might be jealous if you have something they don’t have like Arthur was when Stanley was flat. If you want to read this book go to your public library and check it out.
