Joey McDarrah writes the following about Lord of the Shadows :
After all the hard work that Darren Shan and his accomplice, Harkat Mulds have done, they decide its best to go back with the Cirque du Freak for a while so that they can rest. Darren finds out that the city that they are performing in is in an old, abandoned football stadium in Darren's home town! From that point, you can already tell that this book is going to be filled with thrills! When they get to the town, Darren spots his younger sister Annie! But, she is all grown up there, and even has a kid, which is named Darius. He decides to leave her alone. While Darren is there, he sees an old friend, Tommy. Darren went to go see Tommy in a soccer game, when R.V. (Regge Vegge) kills him, because he is working with Steve, Darren's best friend when he was younger, and now Steve is the Lord of the Vampaneze. Darren goes on the hunt for them in a tunnel, where they hurt him very much. Then, two people take him to their masters, which turn out to be Debbie (Darren's ex-girlfriends) and Alice (ex-cop). They are humans that fight the vampaneze with the vampires. They are called vampirites! Vancha March also comes along and once they are all together, they go on a final hunt for the vampaneze lord. Once they encounter him, it turns out Steve is the father of Darius! So while they are there, Stever had capture Evra's younger boy, and Darren has Darius. Steve kills Evra's boy, and just about as Darren is about to kill Darius for revenge, Steve tells him that Darius is his nephew. Now, they must truly battle, if the loser dies, the winner will become the most monsterous creature the world has ever saw...the Lord of the Shadows!
