Number the Stars, is a novel about a little girl named Annemarie and her family who try to help their Jewish neighbors get away from the Nazi soldiers. The story's setting takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in, 1943. Annemarie, a ten year old girl, has to be extremely brave when she ends up going on unplanned adventures that would not be called fun. When she goes on these adventures, she encounters soldiers and has to lie to keep her family and her best friend Ellen and Ellen's family safe. She knows some things she should not, and if the Nazis find out what she knows, she and her family may be sent to a concentration camp maybe even a death camp.
I really like this book's setting and the fact that the main character gets to prove how brave she is by putting herself in danger just to save her best friend. I like that she goes on a lot of adventures throughout the book, which tells me there will never be a dull moment. I also liked that this book had some true information and some of the characters are based on reel people who experienced these events. In fact, the a fictional character Peter is based on a person who was actually in the White Rose Resistance that helped the Jews escape the Nazis.
I would have never picked up this book by choice because I had never really liked history, but as soon as I started reading Number the Stars it changed the way I looked at history. I realized that it could be really interesting. I liked this book a lot and I am definitely going to read this book a few more times. If I had to rate this book I would give it five stars. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes historical fiction and adventure. Even if you do not like historical fiction you should still read this book because it will definitely be worth it. Number the Stars was one of the best books I have ever read. If you end up reading, it I hope you like it
