A Wrinkle in Time
Book Review
Have you ever read A Wrinkle in Time ? It’s a fantasy by Madison L’engle. There are three other books by this author. They are A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and Many Water . I think you will enjoy this book review.
The story takes place mainly at Camazotz in outer space. As Meg, Calvin, and Charles walk along the road they noticed that everybody and everything look the same and act the same. It starts with houses then stores then apartments last but not least tall office buildings. There was a really tall office building called CENTRAL Central Intelligence. This was a very interesting place to them. It was always very peaceful because nothing was ever different.
The main characters of this story are Charles, Calvin, and Meg. Meg and Charles are brother and sister and Calvin is a friend. Meg is twelve and isn’t the smartest person but she’s really good at math. She taught an eleventh grader who was only fourteen how to do a math problem in an easier way. She wears glasses and has long, brown, curly hair. Charles is 5 and is very smart. It is like he can read peoples mines. He doesn’t talk a lot so people think he’s dumb. They also think he’s dumb because his sister isn’t that smart. Calvin is the oldest and is very smart. He’s only 14 and in the 11th grade. He plays football. He has orange red hair and is very tall. His worst subject is math which is Meg’s best subject. He likes to escape from his family because he feels like they don’t love him.
In the story Calvin, Meg, and Charles are looking for Charles and Meg’s father because he went missing. At the beginning of the story Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Whatsit traveled to places in outer space with the children. Then they traveled to a place called Camazotz and they left the children to find their father themselves. This was the climax or changing point of the story. Mrs. Whatsit told the children that it would be harder for Charles to stay focus and it was. They went to one place called CENTRAL central Intelligence and they were talking to a man in the building. The man didn’t like that they kept asking him questions about Camazotz. So he sent him to another man. Charles wanted to know more about this man so the man told him to look into his eyes. When Charles looked into his eyes he turned to someone who knew everything about Camazotz. It was like he has been living in Camazotz for his whole life. He turned his back against Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit and thought that they were the evil ones. Will they find their father? Will Charles turn back to normal? You’ll have to find out by reading a Wrinkle in Time.
There is one main theme in this story. The theme is don’t give up. This book shows that because the kids kept trying to find their dad and change Charles back to normal and they kept getting closer and closer for that to happen. That’s at least what I think the main theme is.
Lastly, I enjoyed reading this book because Madeline L’engle used a lot of description like “She was a marble white body with powerful flanks, something like a horse but at the same time completely unlike a horse, for from the magnificently modeled back sprang a nobly formed torso, arms, and a head resembling a man’s but a man with a perfection of dignity, and virtue, an exaltation of joy such as Meg had never before seen.” I think children in the older elementary grades should read this book because this book has hard words that younger kids may not understand. I give this book 5 stars! YOU SHOULD READ IT NOW!
