Tahani A. writes the following about Pictures of Hollis Woods :
I can?t imagine what it would be like, living in many different homes, with many different people. For Hollis Woods this is normal. For the twelve years she has been alive she has been in and out of foster homes. I can?t imagine living with someone I didn?t know, but after awhile I?d get used to it, right? I think it would be weird to live with someone you didn?t know anything about, you are just put in their house, and you have no say. Hollis just ran away from the best thing that ever happened to her, and she can?t stop thinking about it. She just had the best summer, with the best people, and now it?s all gone, just like that. This is the beginning to a great book by Patricia Reilly Giff, called Pictures of Hollis Woods. This book reminded me of the book Flipped, by Wendelin Van Draan. In the book Flipped, the chapters alternate between two character perspectives. It reminded me of this book, because in this book the chapters alternate between the present and the past, also the styles of these authors were both similar. The minute I started reading this book I couldn?t put it down. This book shows that we often take the most important things for granted, and that some people can only wish for these things. It only took me a couple of days to read this book, because I read it every chance I got. I had to find out what was going to happen next in the story, because I felt like I knew the characters. I gave this book a rating of ten. This book tells a great story, and teaches a good lesson. It allows the readers to appreciate what they have, more than they did before. I was able to create a picture in my mind of what the characters looked like, and what was happening throughout the story. I do think that girls would probably enjoy this book more than boys. Hollis Woods, the main character, is a girl, and I think it is easier for girls to put themselves in the character?s position for that reason. The only suggestion I would have for this book would be to make it longer! When the book was over, I was left still wanting more, not wanting it to be over yet. I have to say that this book, out of the many I have read, is one of my favorites. This book just puts a lot in perspective. It really made me appreciate everything that I have, and I hope it will do the same for you.
