Okay, first off let me just say that I think this book rocks. In fact the whole series rocks ... I've read all 13.
Now, on to the review!
The three Baudelaire orphans--Violet, 14, an inventor; Klaus, 12, a reader; and Sunny, infant, a biter--are hanging out at Briny Beach. All of a sudden Mr. Poe, a banker with a cough, comes and tells them the terrible news that their parents died in a fire that destroyed their entire home. They have to go live with their new guardian, the evil Count Olaf, who just wants their fortune. He makes them do a bunch of chores, and he's drunk. He even hits Klaus. Later in the book the Baudelaires discover a plan to steal their fortune by marrying Violet in a play, but for real. They have to cooperate or olaf would kill Sunny. Luckliy, violet foils his plot at the last minute!
The book is dark, as Mr. Snicket promises, but the author guides your through the book with humor and definitions.
I promise you: each of the books in the series is a MUST READ! And what better place to start then with the first book, The Bad Beginning.
