There are three stories in this book. The main characters of these stories are women that want to realize their ambitions to go on the journey to dangerous place in the world. The scenes of these stories are the desert, the mountains, and the sea. They are very different places, but all of them are dangerous, so people of this book say their journey is reckless. A lot of difficulties confronted them while they journey, but they didnft give up their journey.
The woman of the first story is Robyn Davidson. Her dream was to journey from Alice Spring that was in the central desert to Hamelin Pool that was on the western coast of Australia. She started this journey to work hard to get camels that journeyed with her. She confronted some difficulties. For example, she had to kill her camels and dog with her rifle.
The woman of the second story is Arlene Blum. Her dream was to reach the summit of Annapurna that was one of the highest and the most dangerous mountain in the world without the help of men. She was the leader of climbing team of eleven women. They confronted some difficulties. For example, they lost one of the teammate.
The woman of the third story is Naomi Power. Her dream was to sail around the world solo. This journey started when she was interested in yacht. She confronted some difficulties. For example, she had to sail in the storm.
They could get perseverance, determination, a lot of knowledge (for example, Aborigines), and partners (include animals) through these journey. Did their journey succeed? Why did they go on such dangerous journeys?
The major conflict that exists in the book is the struggle that women have with themselves and nature. Women of three stories confronted a lot of difficulties, so I think they sometimes regret to go on journey. However, they didnft give up their journey. The nature always influenced their journey, in other words, the success of their journey depended whether the weather was good. If the weather was nice, their journey was easier and if the weather was bad, the journey was more difficult.
I like this book. One reason why I like this book is because the book depicts nature vividly. These three places are places that we seldom go, so I donft know about them. However, when I read this book, I seemed to visit there. Another reason why I like this book is because I can feel a possibility of my dream. I always give up my dream. However, when I read this book, I think I have to strive to realize my dream. I think if I strive to realize my dream, my dream come true.
