mayo writes the following about DESERT, MOUNTAIN, SEA :
This novel is about three women who made dangerous journeys. They are very curious and love adventures. The first story is about a woman, Robyn Davidson, who walks across the Australian desert with her dog and camels. At first, she doesnft have enough money, so she has to work very hard to save the money she needs. She also has to get camels. Then, she starts her journey. On her journey, she has many problems, but she also has great experiences. She meets Aborigines, and she is interested in them and their language. She walks toward her goal with the help of Aborigines.
The second story is about a woman, Arlene Blum, who climbs one of the highest and most dangerous mountains in the world with her company. She puts together a womenfs-only climbing group. She has many problems such as preparations, bad weather, and avalanches, but she overcomes them with her company.
The final story is about a woman, Naomi James, who sails alone around the world. At first, she doesnft know about sailing, or even how to swim, but she loves adventure. She decides to sail solo around the world. She gets support from her husband and a yacht owner, and then she starts her journey.
The three women each have conflicts in the novel. Robyn Davidson has a conflict of killing her dog and camel. If her animals are sick, she has to kill them because she must free them from pain. She feels violently sick after she kills her animals, but it is necessary to continue to travel. Arlene Blum has a conflict of judgments. She is the leader of her group, so she has to decide many things. She must decide whether to go ahead or turn back in the mountains. She also decides who climbs first because it is very dangerous to climb first. She has responsibility for reaching the summit. Naomi James has a conflict of her own mind. She is alone on the boat, so she asks herself again and again why she wants to sail solo around the world. She has to fight against her weak mind and loneliness.
I like this novel because the women in this story have very strong minds and their own goals. Ifm surprised that they want to take such dangerous journeys. If they have a problem, they never give up because they have unwavering wills. They can find their way for their goals. If I were them, I couldnft continue to travel. I think they are very cool, so I want to be like them. It is very important to know what you want to do in your life. I strongly recommend you to read this novel.
