Alex writes the following about My Secret War :
Make World War II come alive as you see the problems of the war and home front through the eyes of Maddie Beck; an eighth grader living in a hotel with her mother in Long Island, New York. Her diary tells the story of her life when her father leaves for war to safeguard the Pacific, but as time goes on her father joins the fight. At school her teacher and classmates learn about her military dad. Johnny Vecchio, who captures Maddie’s heart, becomes interested in the war and shares his interest with Maddie. Together they form a club called the K3F (Kids Fight for Freedom) Club in which they do things to benefit the fight in the war.Maddie discovers problems along the way and has to deal with the war and the "star points" or the five prettist girls in her class. With Nazis close by no one is safe, creating a page-turning effect. This book has history and adventure that I loved and that many more will too. With romance and adventure this book is a must-read!
