riley writes the following about the slave dancer :
ok well this book is about a young boy named jessie and he get taken on board of a ship full of slaves. he is forced to play his fife which is like a flute for the crew on the ship. the captain is very strict and dosent let any of the slaves eat very much at all. Purvis, a nice member of the crew is very nice to jessie and likes him very much so sneeks food for him behind the captains back. but when the captain finds out that purvis was giving him food, purvis got whipped almost to death. in this book it is about slavery and how slavery is not right!
thankfully at the end of the book jessie gets sent free and gets to go home and see his family.
