LAC writes the following about Bridge to Terabithia [UNABRIDGED] :

This is the best story about a new girl in town. Jess and Leslie (the new girl) seem to be enemies at first. Leslie keeps trying to win his friendship and does eventually. The only thing is that everyone, including Jess' own father, disapproves of their friendship. Jess and Leslie invent a secret land where they can be themselves. Boys and girls will love this book. It is full of adventure, friendship, family problems, and more. This is my favorite book ever. Don't bother with the movie. They could not do it justice.
