teeny-tiny-tater-tot writes the following about Where I'd Like to Be :
Maddie Byers is a foster child at the Home. She doesn’t know who her dad is, and her mom abandoned her when she was young. She’s always wanted a home, and she can’t wait until she’s old enough to get one herself. She even has a book she and Randy Nidiffer (her old foster home brother) made, that has pictures of houses that she clipped out of magazines. Ricky Ray is one of her only friends, although he’s only 6 years old. Then Murphy comes along, whose parents have traveled all over the world, taught her to fly, then died in a car crash, or so she said. She says that her aunt in Paris will someday come and get her. Maddie and Murphy become closer together, and become each others home. It seems she found someone that feels like home, not something. Both decide to build a home of their own, along with some other surprising characters, which all make each other feel like home. I gave this book a 9 because the plot was good, and you felt bad for the characters, because the book had a lot of meaning and voice. I felt I really knew the characters, and it was very detailed. The only thing I would have changed would have been to not introduce so many characters at once. I got confused at one part because a lot of characters were introduced. I also got the names mixed up once because they were pretty close (Ricky Ray and Randy).
