Sherika writes the following about Deogratias, A Tale of Rwanda :
This book was about the Rwandan tragedy of 1994. It took place in an African country called Rwandan. During the time that this took place the country was in the aftermath of a horrific genocide which claimed about 800,000 lives. The main character in this story name was a young boy named, Deogratias. He stole some money from the Reverend Father, to help his mother buy her medicine. Instead of him helping his mother he bought a book for a girl like named Apollinaria. When he confessed to her that he loved her, she got mad at him and walked away. Apollinaria's sister Benina, told her that she had just kissed Deogratias. A character named Bosco gave Deogratias some Urwagwa but he poured it out because he didn't want to be poisoned. Deogratias found out that the Reverend Father was Apollinaria's father. When he went to somebody else to get some Urwagwa it poisoned him and he basically turned into a dog. The last time he went get some Urwagwa , he went to an innkeeper and this time he got drunk and almost hit the people that were crossing the street at the time. There were reports that small-arms fire has been heard been heard all night and there were lynchings in Kigali. Deogratias admitted that he gave the sergeant, Bosco, and Julius by giving them the poisoned Urwagwa, which later killed them.
