Matt writes the following about American Born Chinese :
The book "American Born Chinese" is a very interesting book. It is in the form of a graphic novel. It is three stories mixed in one story. One story is about a monkey king wanting to be a god. The next one is about a Chinese boy that was born in America. He shows the hardships that a foreign student has to go through. The other story is about an American boy who has an Asian cousin. His cousin visits and goes to school with him every year. The American boy is embarassed by his cousin. It is really interesting how all the stories eventually go together. They are all connected. The book is interesting, but it a little wierd at times. You don't get really bored reading it. It keeps you interested. I give the book a seven, and the illustrations a seven. The illustrations are pretty good. They are different but still cool. The illustrations really helped the book move along. They also helped you to understand the story more. My favorite part of the book was that it was funny sometimes. It had many jokes and funny situations. The weakness of the book was that it was hard to understand what was going on. All around it was a pretty good book and I would suggest it anyone who usually doesn't like to read. It's not a like a regular book, because it had pictures and had less words on each page. If you don't like to read it, this book and most other graphic novels will help out drastically. They don't take as long to read and you don't stay on the same page for a long time. It is less boring, it makes you more interested seeing the pictures. This book is also good, because it teaches important lessons. It teaches that you should be happy with who you are. You shouldn't envy other people, because their looks or background. It also teaches that all people are different, and you shouldn't make fun of or insult people just because they are different. All three of the stories teach these lessons in different way. You learn the lessons and you don't even realize that you are learning them until the end. The book was good and had good themes, so thats why I gave it a seven out of ten.
