Austin writes the following about House of the Scorpion :
The House of the Scorpion is a book about the life of a clone named Matteo Alacran (Matt) who lives in "Dreamland". Throughout Matt's life, he tries to figure out why he is a clone and why he wasnt made an eejit clone(eejit is a person that has a brain, but doesn't use it. They can only do what they are told) like the clone law states. When he finds out the truth he is horroified. Find out what the truth is and help Matt reach the convent. I would compare this book to most other science-fiction becaue it takes place in the furture and has characters with non-humanistic traits like deformed clones. I would rate this book a 6 out of 10 because it loses you at time and many things are happening at the same time , like a birthday party and people spying on each other. I think I could make this book better by shortening it, creating more adventures, and getting to the plot sooner. I would also suggest that 14 and 15 year old would be better suited for this novel.
In summary, my overall opinion of this book is that it is too long and has information that isn't nessary for the plot, but i have recommended The House of the Scorpion to a friend.
