For reading class, I read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. The story is about how Brian Robeson has to survive in the wild after a plane crash. He builds a shelter and finds out how to hunt with a bow and arrow and a spear.
I adored the use of language on Gary Paulsen's part because I could easily picture the story taking place right infront of my eyes. The ending wasn't my favorite, but I won't ruin the book for you. The overall theme of Hatchet is survival and I think that 9-12 year olds would enjoy this book. I would say this is an adventure.
Hatchet is an exciting, captivating novel.
